How to Manage Group Administration in Ubuntu, Linux Mint and Fedora






 1.  To add new group
#  groupadd   ubuntugrp
#  grep ubuntugrp  /etc/group

2.  Adding a new group with gid 5000.
# groupadd –g 5000 linuxmintgrp
#  grep linuxmintgrp  /etc/group

3.  Modifying group with gid
# groupmod –g 6000 linuxmintgrp
#  grep linuxmintgrp  /etc/group

4. Changing the name of a existing group
#  groupmod –n linuxmint  linuxmintgrp
#  grep  linuxmint  /etc/group
#  groupdel   linuxmint
#  grep linuxmint  /etc/group




5.  To add users as a Secondary users in a Group.
#  useradd  Jack
#  useradd  John
#  useradd  karen
#  gpasswd  -M jack,john,karen  salesgrp
#  grep  salesgrp  /etc/group

6.  Removing user Karen from group salesgrp
# gpasswd –d  karen salesgrp
# grep  salesgrp  /etc/group

7. Adding User Karen to group salesgrp
# gpasswd –a  karen salesgrp
# gpasswd  salesgrp  /etc/group
