How to Upgrade From Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS to Ubuntu 19.10 Using Command Line

Things You’ll Need to Upgrade

To follow along with this tutorial you need the following  3 things:

1. An (up-to-date) install of Ubuntu 18.04
2. A (working) internet connection
3. A smidgen of patience

Download or Visit : https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop

Prepare Your System

 1. Open “Software & Updates” in System Settings.
 2. Select the “Updates” tab in the window that appears


 3. Under “Install Updates from” click the box next to “Pre-released updates“
 4. Set “Notify me of a new Ubuntu version” to “For any new version”

2 Method

Upgrade Before Ubuntu 18.04 LTS is Released
1. sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
2. sudo update-manager -d

3 Method

Upgrade After Ubuntu 18.04 LTS is Released
1. Open “Update Manager” from the Unity Dash
2. Let it check for new updates
3. You’ll see the prompt: “New distribution release ‘18.04 LTS’ is available“.
4. Click Upgrade and follow any on-screen instructions
5. sudo do-release-upgrade
